crochet mood blanket : april, may, june

I just wrapped up the final month for my crochet mood {turned un-mood} blanket.
Like many New Year's resolutions, I began this project highly motivated and with all the possibility a new year has to offer.  Each square took me less than 10 minutes to complete, surely I could take 15 minutes at the end of the day to reflect on my mood, choose a color to match, and then stitch up a block.
And I did, for a good 2 and a half months.  Then you miss a day {or 4).  And you try to remember what mood you were in 4 days ago. And you try to pick a color that goes with that mood, but one that would still look good in your blanket.  And it's feeling more like a chore than a fun hobby.
April 1st I decided to ditch the "mood" part of my mood blanket and just use colors I liked.  It was fun playing with colors--April went along great.

But now that I wasn't tracking moods, the blanket kind of lost its meaning.  It was turning into "just a blanket."

I was getting bored doing the same square over and over.  And the ends.  Oh the endless ends that needed weaving.

 Sure it was great to be able to take this project anywhere, and I did: the orthodontist and dentist appointments for the boys, the ice hockey rink and lacrosse practices, lunch breaks at school, and outside in the sunshine.

 The fun was good while it lasted, but I could tell it was time to call it quits.  So I made it through 6 months, half of a year, and will end up with half the blanket I originally set out to make.  I'm ok with that.  The way I see it, I can now work on a second blanket for the other half of the year.  A sort of two-for-the-price-of-one deal!

crochet mood blanket: march recap

Hello April, I could not be happier to see you!
The crochet mood blanket 2014 is still going {kinda} strong over here.  I fell a little off the wagon mid-month and had to play catch-up, but March is complete:

 I also figured out a double crochet edging for each month's blocks and decided to use the same Flat Braid to join the months together.
1) Join border yarn to any chain3 loop space on bottom side of panel.
2) ch4 (counts as first dc, ch1), 1dc in same space; 1dc, ch1, 1dc in next space.
3) Continue on working 1dc, ch1, 1dc in each chain3 loop space.
When two squares intersect, 1dc in first color, ch1, 1dc in next color.
At corners: ch2, 1dc, ch1, 1dc in corner space; ch2 and continue on as step 3 above.

At side where two panels will connect (joining one panel to the next): 1dc in chain3 loop space, pull hook out insert into opposite side in ch1 space between 2dc in same loop, put loop back on hook, ch1 and 1dc in same space.
1dc in next loop, pull hook out, insert hook into ch1 space, put loop back on hook, ch1, 1dc in same space.
At intersecting colors: 1dc in first color loop, pull out hook, insert in ch1 space on opposite side, put loop back on hook, ch1 dc in next color loop.  Continue flat braid join along side, and finish border on bottom side.
To finish: join with a slip stitch to 3rd chain in beginning ch4 and fasten off.

January and February joined

mood blanket monday: week 8

Happy Monday!
I am a bit in shock that I have this post written and ready to go on time.  Wooohoo!
I spent much of Sunday redoing my little blog: designing little graphics, uploading, reloading, saving, deleting, downloading, reloading.  Suffice it to say, it was a pasta and jarred sauce kind of dinner last night!
  But I am quite happy with the little makeover (and so happy to see a white background again!).  I'm sure I'll be tweaking it here and there.  But for now, let's get on with last week's blanket.
Last week was February vacation around here.  Three boys.home with me.for the week.  We had a great time doing a whole lot of nothing.  Sometimes I want to get out and do stuff with them, and I wish they had a little more sense of adventure in them (they take after their dad), but for times when I just want to hunker down in the house, these boys are all I need.

Let's just say there was a lot of video game time, but the important thing is that we were together.  Here's the week in blanket squares:

mood blanket monday: week 7

Just scraping in with my crochet mood blanket update before we rush off to the hockey rink {again}.
 This week was so much easier because I really stayed on top of it and crocheted my square every single day.  It might have also helped that I was in a much better mood this week!
Sunday || DAY 40:
{two naps and lots of reading}
Monday || DAY 41:
{channeling my inner youth on my 40th birthday}
Tuesday || DAY 42:
{coming to terms with the fact that 40 is not so bad}
 Wednesday || DAY 43:
{anniversary of my grandpa's death and lunch with my mom, dad and aunt}
Thursday || DAY 44:
{a snow day = found time to create}
 Friday || DAY 45:
{Valentine's Day}
Saturday || DAY 46:
{lots of family time, even if most of it was at the ice rink}

mood blanket monday: week 6

It's another Mood Blanket Monday!

For the first time during this project, it became a little hard.  I didn't feel like keeping track of moods, didn't feel like thinking up colors to match those moods.  Maybe even felt like giving up.  I'm trying to keep my blanket positive, yet authentic.  There are some days when I am sad or angry or frustrated.    Luckily those feelings don't often last the entire day, and I'm able to focus on some piece of positivity from the day.

Here's the week (from the Collect app):

So there it is: week 6 of my crochet mood blanket in all its positive and not-so-positive squares.

Have a great week!

mood blanket monday: week 5

Good Morning!
January has whipped right on by us.  Can't really say I'm sad to see it go--I'm already itching for some warm spring weather.

My crochet mood blanket is coming along.

31 days of crochet squares complete!

Created in Collect App
Here's the week in review, crochet mood blanket style:
Feeling rested and restored: painted my nails and worked on creative projects.

Just one of those days where I felt comfortable: in my clothes, in my skin, in my head.

Spent my day off getting things done in this house: cleaning out closets, organizing and purging.

More organizing, this time in the stUdio.

 Feeling relaxed, calm and carefree.

Started the day of uptight and stressed at home, but spending a day in a kindergarten turned that right around.

A day marked with lots of yelling, stress and anger.  Not my best Mom day.  Pre-teens are difficult.

Good bye January, and hello to February.  Hoping it looks up from here!
