Happy brand spankin' New Year to all of you!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I know I've said it on here before, probably every single new year that I've been writing my blog (which would make 8 times if you're the counting type), I LOVE a NEW YEAR! I love the clean slate, the fresh start, the possibility, the potential, the excitement of what's to come. I love the chance to become better, to do more, to dream bigger.<br />
<br />
Here's a little peek at my preliminary plans for this year via some excerpts from my planner.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>

<br />
<h3>
Resolutions</h3>
<div>
I know many people don't believe in setting resolutions. I love setting goals for a new year. They help me focus on what's important. And writing them down helps me to check in and see how I'm doing as the year progresses and add to the list as I need to. Even as I am writing this, I have added more goals to this list. </div>

<h3>
One Little Word</h3>
<div>
My One Little Word for this year is B R A V E. Well, Be Brave actually, but that's 2 words and it feels like cheating. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://scontent.cdninstagram.com/hphotos-xpt1/t51.2885-15/s640x640/sh0.08/e35/1517071_1091610690890838_406831506_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://scontent.cdninstagram.com/hphotos-xpt1/t51.2885-15/s640x640/sh0.08/e35/1517071_1091610690890838_406831506_n.jpg" /></a></td></tr>

<br /></div>
This little bit of word art was created with the <a href="http://www.madewithstudio.com/" target="_blank">Studio app</a> (still my favorite for graphic design work).</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
This year I will B E . B R A V E<br />
to do hard things<br />
to take chances<br />
to risk failing<br />
to love deeper<br />
to connect more<br />
to be confident<br />
to take care of myself<br />
<br />
Life takes courage.<br />
This year I want to focus on confronting challenges and overcoming fears. No, I won't be doing any skydiving or bungee jumping in 2016 (at least not that I know of). <br />
But I will be working to silent the voices that whisper: you can't do that, you're not good enough, you're going to fall flat on your face. I want to gather the confidence to DO and maybe conquer, but at the very least stand tall and say, "I'll try."<br />
<br />
<br />
Each month, I will be choosing an area of my life in which to BE.brave<br />
confidence | love | connections | creativity | learning | self care<br />
<br />
<h3>
30 Day Challenges</h3>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Each month, I will be giving myself a little challenge, something measurable that I can do daily. I am all about habit energy and want to use this year to establish some good habits, if only for a month!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
wash my face each night | run a mile a day | crochet, read, write for 30 minutes | post on IG | clean out something</div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Unfortunately, I can't locate this printable that I had altered, but you can find several similar ones by searching "important dates printable" on Pinterest.</td></tr>

And I can keep track of each day on this cute little rainbow colored checklist for the year!<br />

<h3>
Crochet</h3>
<div>
This year is dedicated to finishing my crochet WIP's. I recently went through my unfinished projects and crazily have enough to work on one (and even 2) each month for all of 2016. I also need to finish up<a href="http://lifemadecreations.blogspot.com/2015/03/crochet-sophies-universe.html" target="_blank"> this gorgeous blanket </a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
as well as my <a href="http://lifemadecreations.blogspot.com/search/label/12%20inch%20granny%20blanket" target="_blank">12" granny blanket from 2015</a>.<br />
I am forcing myself to finish each month's WIP before beginning another crochet project. Crossing my fingers that I will end 2016 with at least 12 completed crochet makes!<br />
<br />
So that's it: my hopes, dream, plans, goals, bravery to make 2016 one of my best years yet!<br />

Hey there!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Remember me? The girl who's been working on a 12" granny square blanket since January? I'm back with two more squares, and am admittedly feeling a bit relieved that next week is the last square before joining {breathing a little sigh of relief}. Big projects are often like that, aren't they? They begin with a burst of excitement and anticipation and then, by the end, teeter off with exhaustion (at least that's how this one feels for me).</div>

Hey, hey, hey!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I was really hoping to get this post up on Monday, and then it was Tuesday, and well, the week got away from me from there. But better late than never, right? And we are quickly approaching the end of our square patterns and it will soon be time to begin the <strike>daunting</strike> super fun task of joining 50 squares!</div>

This is such a pretty square. I love the center clustered flower, and the way it poofs up when you stitch the backside. I wish my square had more room for the beautiful roses around the outside. Lots of interesting combinations of stitches here!</div>

<br />
Hello, friends! Thanks so much for popping in. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Yesterday, here in the States, we observed Veterans' Day to honor the people who serve in courage to protect our country and freedoms that we so often take for granted. I spent the mid-week day off from work hooking up some Christmas baubles.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://scontent.cdninstagram.com/hphotos-xfa1/t51.2885-15/s640x640/sh0.08/e35/12224088_1062883407058032_1803916252_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://scontent.cdninstagram.com/hphotos-xfa1/t51.2885-15/s640x640/sh0.08/e35/12224088_1062883407058032_1803916252_n.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
They are super fun to make and work up fairly quickly. I am excited to make bunches of baubles to give as gifts this holiday season. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you would like to hook up some of your own, I am happy to share the pattern with you:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Materials: size F hook, dk weight yarn (or light weight worsted), 3" glass or plastic ornament bulbs</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Finish each round with a slip stitch join and fasten off.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>round 1</b>: in a magic circle, ch3, 11dc {12dc}</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>round 2</b>: working between each dc from round 1 (not in top of stitch) work 1 hdc, ch1around {12 hdc, 12 ch1 spaces}</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>round 3</b>: 3dc cluster, ch 1 in each ch1 space. (YO, insert hook in space, pull up loop, YO, pull through 2 loops, repeat 3 times, then YO pull through all 4 loops) {12 3dccl, 12 ch1 spaces}</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>round 4</b>: sc in each of the 2 stitches of the clusters (the large stitch of the cluster & the chain stitch), dc in space between stitches {24 sc, 12 dc}</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>round 5</b>: dc in each of the 2 sc from rnd 4, ch1 sk dc (24 dc, 12 ch1 spaces}</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b>round 6</b>: 2hdc in ch spaces, 1hdc between 2dc from rnd 5 {36 hdc)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Make 2 and don't fasten off the final round of the second medallion. Weave in all ends. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Place the two sides together, right sides facing out, and slip stitch all the way around to join. Go around about 3/4 of the way, insert the bulb and continue slip stitch joining. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Happy November!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
How is it November already?! Halloween is over, and Christmas has hit the stores in full force. And we are winding down with the last handful of granny squares to complete our blanket. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
This is another favorite square. I love the way the back-post crochet makes the stitches pop, and the lines the pattern creates.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-garkzyEUutM/VjeOsXEfHVI/AAAAAAAAJgY/x0pPKbQgM-E/s1600/11.2-square-week-44-close.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-garkzyEUutM/VjeOsXEfHVI/AAAAAAAAJgY/x0pPKbQgM-E/s640/11.2-square-week-44-close.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I did omit the last 3 rounds, ending instead with round 12. My round 13 went like this:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
in corner: 3sc</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
*sk 1 stitch, sc in next 5, {dc 2 tog, sc in next 2} x2, dc 2 tog, dc, hdc, 2sc, sc 2 tog at top of point, 2sc, hdc, dc, dc 2 tog, {2sc, dc 2 tog} x 2, sc in next 4, sk 1 stitch, 3sc in corner Repeat from * around and join with sl st to first sc.</div>

Hello, there! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Is it just me, or are these weeks whipping by faster than I can chug down a Pumpkin Spice Latte?! I can't keep up these days, and I've stopped pretending that I can. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My planner is chock full of places to go and things to do.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9hTdODYyXQU/Vi5dp8v4lBI/AAAAAAAAJfU/3ZT7Hb8jkSg/s1600/10.26-planner.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9hTdODYyXQU/Vi5dp8v4lBI/AAAAAAAAJfU/3ZT7Hb8jkSg/s640/10.26-planner.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Life is pulling in every direction.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I've got more thoughts in my head than I have hours in the day.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And sadly, this blog is the first thing to fall to the bottom of the list.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Well, let's get on with it. There's grocery shopping to be done, a car to drop at the shop, a kid to take to the orthodontist, homework to be done, dinner to make, oh and I'll be thrilled if I can squeeze in a five minute shower. </div>

Through the years, we have sporadically held a family meeting on Sunday evenings. With a new school year beginning and with it, all the craziness of the hockey season, homework, and work for me I am hoping to get back to this tradition on a more consistent basis.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I made a printable using adorable frames created by Barb at <a href="http://secondchancetodream.com/" target="_blank">Second Chance to Dream</a> {you can see her original <a href="http://secondchancetodream.com/2014/05/summer-goal-setting-printable.html" target="_blank">Summer Goal Setting printable here</a>}. Thanks so much, Barb for allowing me to share my printable!</div>

You can download your own with the Box link at the bottom of this post.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here's how we use it. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
1. <b>Roles </b> Each person chooses a role for the meeting</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<u> Encourager:</u> is the supportive voice to make sure we all remain encouraging</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<u>Note Recorder:</u> records the info on the laminated agenda sheet with a wet erase marker. This gets</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
hung in our kitchen for the week. The recorder may also be asked to record other notes and </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
tasks if needed.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<u>Menu Chalker:</u> chalks the dinners for the week on our menu chalkboard</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<u>Agenda Tracker:</u> keeps us moving through the agenda and on track with our time. We try to keep </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
our meetings to around 15 minutes.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<u>Reader:</u> reads the calendar and the info from the previous week's agenda.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
We are a family of 5 so this gives everyone a role, but you can adjust them to fit your family.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
2. <b>The Week Ahead</b> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<u>Calendar:</u> We begin our meetings by looking at the calendar for the week, and figuring out which </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
parent is taking which child to their events. We cross check our calendars (iCals) with the large </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
family paper calendar and make sure everything lines up. We make note of any special to dos </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
associated with the calendar.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<u>Menu:</u> Knowing the calendar helps us figure out what meals will look like for the week: when do </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
we need to use the crock pot or grab take out or have a quick-cooking meal. Everyone offers up </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
suggestions for a meal they would like and the menu board gets filled out along with the initial </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
of the child who will help cook that night.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<u>Connection:</u> We plan for a family connection time: family movie night, game night, knee hockey </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
game, whatever. This is a time we schedule for the whole family to get together for an hour or </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
2 each week. We note it on the agenda and add it to the calendar.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<u>Other:</u> Any other things that need to be discussed. We hang a sheet of notebook paper near the </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
agenda for anyone to write down anything that might need to be discussed at the family meeting.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
3. <b>Highs and Lows </b>We discuss what worked this week and what didn't. These can be family related </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
(like calm discussions or hectic mornings), or personal (like studying and earning an A or not </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
getting enough exercise). We try to focus on the positives (here's where that encourager role </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
comes in) and then make a plan for what needs to be worked on as a family (like cleaning up our </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
messes).</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
4. <b>Goals </b>Each person sets a goal for the week which gets recorded. Throughout the week we check </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
in on each other (ok, mostly I check in on them) to see how they are doing with their goal. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And that's it! </div>

Hello, hello! Happy Monday! It's not morning, but at least it's still Monday so I'm officially not late.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This week's square is a bit of a doozy. And I have to admit that I thought about giving up on it {more than once}. Luckily, Aurora, the designer, included helpful videos to walk me through where to place the front post stitches in the blossom. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

WEEK THIRTY NINE || <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fall-blossom" target="_blank">Fall Blossom</a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tBuq3DcZFc0/VgCfMBru_vI/AAAAAAAAJdM/umyZryA0Rlw/s1600/9.21-square-week-39.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tBuq3DcZFc0/VgCfMBru_vI/AAAAAAAAJdM/umyZryA0Rlw/s640/9.21-square-week-39.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It is a pretty square. If I had it to do over again, I would have made an additional color change in the flower to accent the petals a bit more. But after ripping this one out so many times, I honestly just wanted to be done with it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CLDQxtgwKT8/VgCfL7VVEwI/AAAAAAAAJdI/B8HlLGuoJ4Q/s1600/9.21-square-week-39-close.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CLDQxtgwKT8/VgCfL7VVEwI/AAAAAAAAJdI/B8HlLGuoJ4Q/s640/9.21-square-week-39-close.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I did add a white trim of sc around the flower and tacked the petals during round 10 rather than round 11. I also ended the square after round 12 with a round of sc to make it fit my blanket.</div>

Good fake Monday morning to you! I don't know where this week went. I swear it was just Sunday. No matter, it's already almost the weekend again!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I did alter the pattern when the circle became extremely wavy. I was going to frog the whole thing, but checked with others on Ravelry who had hooked the square. I followed the recommendation of one crocheter and ended up making the following changes to the pattern beginning with round 8:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Round 8:</b> instead of 4 dc in each middle stitch from round 6, <b>work 3dc </b>(48 dc, 16 ch1 spaces)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Round 9: </b>follow pattern for a total of (64sc)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Round 10:</b> follow pattern tacking with every 4th sc in top of trc petal stitch. (64sc)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Round 11:</b> follow pattern for a total of (64sc)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Round 12:</b> Begin corner to right of any tacking sc on any petal with [{2trc ch1 2trc} in same stitch. Into each stitch across side, work: trc, dc 2x, hdc 2x, sc 5x, hdc 2x, dc 2x, trc. ] Repeat [ ]around for 3 more sides and corners (76)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Round 13: </b>corner [{2dc ch2 2dc} in corner ch1 space Into each stitch across side work dc 2x, hdc 4x, sc 7x, hdc 4x, dc 2x.] Repeat [ ] around for 3 more sides and corners (92)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Round 14: </b>follow pattern (104sc)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Round 15:</b> instead of sc, <b>work dc </b>(112dc)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Round 16:</b> follow pattern with sc around (120c)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>Round 17: </b>instead of sc,<b> work dc, </b>with {dc, ch2, dc} for corner (124 dc)</div>

Happy Labor Day! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm so grateful to have this 3-day weekend to do a ton of catch up.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We returned to school this past week, and I went from staying home full time for the summer to working 5 full days. It's been a bit of a shock to my system after 74 consecutive lazy-dayz of summer! Slowly, I am adjusting to our new normal around here, the routines, the homework, the hockey practices, the dinner planning, prepping and cooking. It has been one heck of a week!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But I do feel like I am crawling back on top and will hopefully be organized by tonight for the week ahead. So let's get on with last week's and this week's squares.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
This was a fast little square to hook up. The pattern was very easy to follow and predictable.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
This was a fun square to hook. I love the look of the surface crochet in the center of the flower created in the last round of the pattern. I did three different color changes: yellow for round 1, white for round 2, and pink for rounds 3 & 4; as opposed to the single color the pattern calls for. I also added a round of hdc between rounds 9 & 10 to fit my blanket.</div>

Introducing the first #periscopecal!<br />

<b><i>The Gist:</i></b><br />
Each week, we will work on a part of the project. Every Monday at 11:00am est, I will Scope mini-tutorials for the stitches and techniques used in the project. Every Thursday at 11:00 am est, I will share my progress so far and then open it up for a Pass-the-Cast for anyone else who would like to share their progress. If you haven't Scoped yet, this would be the perfect time to jump in on a supportive community (hint, hint)! If you are not able to join live at those times, the replays will be available on Pericsope for 24 hours and on <a href="http://katch.me/lifemadecreate">Katch.Me</a>. <div style="text-align: center;">
So you've downloaded the <a href="https://www.periscope.tv/" target="_blank">Periscope App</a> and you're wondering now what?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here are some of the tips I've gathered during my month or so on Periscope:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vbBgDZgWpnQ/Vd90quMFHKI/AAAAAAAAJaw/YFalQA6WJuU/s1600/8.27-periscope-tips.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vbBgDZgWpnQ/Vd90quMFHKI/AAAAAAAAJaw/YFalQA6WJuU/s640/8.27-periscope-tips.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
Your Profile:</div>
<ol>
<li><b>Use a face shot as your profile picture.</b> Periscope is a more personal form of social media. You're interacting with people face-to-face in real-time. Let them see who you are!</li>
<li><b>Fill in your bio.</b> People will click on your name during a cast and make a split-second decision whether or not to connect with you. Let them know who you are & what your interests are. People want to connect with people who are similar in some way to them.</li>
<li><b>Scope daily.</b> I know this one is hard. But even if you come on to share your 1-minute bio. When people visit your profile, they are wondering what you're all about. A current, playable Scope helps answer their question.</li>
</ol>
<div>
Your Scopes:</div>
<div>
<ol>
<li><b>Just do it!</b> Yes it's super scary to press that red broadcast button. But put on your brave girl pants and put yourself out there. The connections you will make with people make it totally worth it!</li>
<li><b>Plan ahead.</b> While sometimes it's fun to fly by the seat of your pants with your Scopes, you should have some sense of what you will be talking about. Make a list to keep yourself on track. When the comments start flying and interactions get going it's easy to forget what you set out to say.</li>
<li><b>Keep it brief.</b> People's time is valuable. And just like many other forms of internet activity, attention spans are short. Say a brief "hello and thank you" and deliver your content. Your viewers will thank you for it!</li>
<li><b>Frame your face.</b> Put your face in the top third of the frame. Comments often cover the bottom portion.</li>
<li><b>Look at the camera.</b> Your device's camera is where the eye-contact is made.</li>
<li><b>Interact.</b> The whole point of Periscope is to interact with your viewers in real-time. If you want to talk at someone, write a blog post, send a Tweet, or make a YouTube video. Periscope is a give-and-take of ideas and discussions.</li>
<li><b>Keep it vertical.</b> Unlike YouTube, Periscope is shot in portrait mode. Hold your device upright so you don't send people's heads tipping sideways.</li>
</ol>
<div>
Watching Scopes:</div>
</div>
<div>
<ol>
<li><b>Give hearts. </b>While watching others' broadcasts, tap the screen to give them colorful hearts. They're free and it's easy. And it tells the Scoper that you like them. Spread those love hearts everywhere!</li>
<li><b>Comment. </b> Ask thoughtful questions. Tell them you feel the same way. Offer up additional ideas. </li>
<li><b>Interact with other viewers. </b>Tap on someone's name during a live broadcast and a menu pops up where you can "reply" to that person, "view profile" (here's where you decide if you would like to follow them), and "block" (occasionally there are creepers on Periscope who are, sadly, up to no good.)</li>
</ol>
<div>
Ideas for Scopes:</div>
<div>
<ol>
<li><b>Teach.</b> What do you know how to do that you can teach others? Give tutorials for knitting, crochet, a mixed media technique, photo editing, camera settings, cooking, painting, brush script. Teach the world what you know!</li>
<li><b>Preach.</b> What do you feel passionately about? What lifts you, moves you, makes you want to be a better person? Tell the world about it!</li>
<li><b>Share</b>. An idea, a project you're working on, your scrapbook, planner, art journal, recipes for this week's meals, a book you've read. Share with the world!</li>
<li><b>Show</b>. Visiting an amazing place? Show the world!</li>
</ol>
</div>
Above all: be polite and positive. Like any other social media (or any part of life, really) <b>be kind.</b> Keep your comments positive and encouraging. Give lots of hearts and be your best self!</div>

About a month ago, I discovered the new-to-me social media platform, <a href="https://www.periscope.tv/" target="_blank">Periscope</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.periscope.tv/" target="_blank"><img border="0" src="http://cdn2.pcadvisor.co.uk/cmsdata/features/3613985/PeriscopeLogo.png" height="225" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Periscope is a live-streaming, interactive broadcasting form of social media where "Scopers" (people) "Scope" (broadcast) about anything their little hearts desire.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I originally joined a boom of teachers who had heard about Periscope at a Teachers Pay Teachers conference in Las Vegas. Teachers were viewing Periscope as a fantastic way to connect with other teachers, share lesson ideas and resources, and even integrate it into their curriculum to connect with classrooms around the world (how cool is that?). </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I quickly realized that artists and fellow crafters were also hanging out on Periscope, sharing peeks into their art studios, explaining their process, and generally doling out free inspiration by the bucketful.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Needless to say I'm addicted.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3edRC8EiF38/Vd74aIrYz4I/AAAAAAAAJaA/Mu_Z2QM0gtg/s1600/8.27-periscope-profile.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3edRC8EiF38/Vd74aIrYz4I/AAAAAAAAJaA/Mu_Z2QM0gtg/s640/8.27-periscope-profile.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You can find me on Persicope with my Twitter handle </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-large;">@lifemadecreate</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'll be sharing some of my Periscope tips in a future post, but in the meantime. <a href="https://www.periscope.tv/" target="_blank">Jump in to Periscope!</a> It's fun and you just might learn something and make new friends (it's like going back to elementary school!)</div>

Hello!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is the last square of the summer. It's bittersweet; while I am sad to see the poolside-lounging days and stay-up-late-cuz-you-can-sleep-in nights come to an end, I am looking forward to getting back to routines and schedules and mostly a new school year with a new group of first graders! I truly have the best job ever!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This week's square, I won't lie to you, takes a bit of concentration. I awoke at 6:30 this morning with the expectation that I could hook it up in an hour. I tuned into some teaching podcasts and got started. Now maybe it was the distracted bit of multi-tasking, but I had to tear out several rounds sometimes more than once. Maybe it's just me, but this may be one of those squares you'll want to give your undivided attention to.</div>

Welcome to post # 2 in my Kid-Free Catch-Up Blog Series! Gosh, that makes it sound so official, doesn't it?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have some super cute and super quick crochet hearts to share with you today.<br />
I made these to give as gifts to my students at the end of the school year (yeah, before this summer started--told you I was in catch-up mode!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-S66niVa-htw/VdUHfzQ7s4I/AAAAAAAAJYo/CHeVOlPQeqg/s1600/8.19-hearts-circle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-S66niVa-htw/VdUHfzQ7s4I/AAAAAAAAJYo/CHeVOlPQeqg/s640/8.19-hearts-circle.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I found an adorable and colorful quote on <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/64457838393334249/" target="_blank">Pinterest</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ks5vbmSFCvk/VdUHgJ7h-6I/AAAAAAAAJYs/3G0HNIKyHAU/s1600/8.19-hearts-line.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ks5vbmSFCvk/VdUHgJ7h-6I/AAAAAAAAJYs/3G0HNIKyHAU/s640/8.19-hearts-line.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then it was just a matter of sitting for a couple of hours (listening to podcasts, of course) and hooking up 85 of them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WiLXrOcxnio/VdUHgjUP0OI/AAAAAAAAJY4/r-Y-ilOec90/s1600/8.19-hearts-wip.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WiLXrOcxnio/VdUHgjUP0OI/AAAAAAAAJY4/r-Y-ilOec90/s640/8.19-hearts-wip.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
To make them even easier, I left the tails on (can I get a boo-yah for not having to weave in ends!), tied them in a knot and stapled the hanging part to the top of the printable. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UAWWmDQ0wjk/VdUHgEy4RaI/AAAAAAAAJYw/4Rj1SVk35GM/s1600/8.19-hearts-rainbow.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UAWWmDQ0wjk/VdUHgEy4RaI/AAAAAAAAJYw/4Rj1SVk35GM/s640/8.19-hearts-rainbow.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After telling the kids how much I love them and how fabulous they are going to rock the second grade, I gave them a tip for those first-day-of-second-grade-in-a-new-school jitters: </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Put this heart in your pocket and remember how much all of your teachers at ___school love you!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zwk68JkzNRU/VdUHgtHEI6I/AAAAAAAAJY8/_j2hMqcxBUA/s1600/8.19-hearts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zwk68JkzNRU/VdUHgtHEI6I/AAAAAAAAJY8/_j2hMqcxBUA/s640/8.19-hearts.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The pattern is simple:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
In a magic ring, ch3, 5dc, ch1, 1trc, ch1, 5dc, ch3, slip stitch.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
That's it! How easy is that?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QS97vItjBZg/VL0sTrWFGkI/AAAAAAAAI7A/ete2WSwuXq4/s1600/crochet+siggy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QS97vItjBZg/VL0sTrWFGkI/AAAAAAAAI7A/ete2WSwuXq4/s1600/crochet+siggy.jpg" /></a></div>

Hi there!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So I am enjoying 2 whole days of kid-free creativity (and cleaning and catching up and organizing). Part of my catch-up is to write a few blog posts of projects and ideas that have been fluttering around here--things I have not had time to post with three boys home with me for the summer.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's the first in this series I'm affectionately dubbing "kid-free catch-up!"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Baby Girl Bow Booties:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U2Jhi4Bxqio/VdTa7p_Yu5I/AAAAAAAAJXo/2phXE87ru2U/s1600/6.18-baby-booties.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U2Jhi4Bxqio/VdTa7p_Yu5I/AAAAAAAAJXo/2phXE87ru2U/s640/6.18-baby-booties.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I used the same pattern as the booties in <a href="http://lifemadecreations.blogspot.com/2014/11/crochet-baby-hat-booties.html" target="_blank">this post,</a> but added a strap.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here is the pattern that I adapted from this pattern at <a href="http://crobypatterns.com/orange-pumpkin-crochet-baby-flats/" target="_blank">Croby Patterns</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Use an E hook (3.5mm) and DK weight yarn.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Foundation for sole: ch 11, in 2nd chain from hook make 2hdc, hdc in next 8, 6hdc in last stitch. Working up the other side of the chain, hdc in next 8, 2hdc in last chain (26)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Round 1: 2sc in next 2, sc in next 5, hdc in next 3, 2dc in next 6, hdc in next 3, sc in next 5, 2sc in last 2. (36) sole complete</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Round 2: in back loops only, sc in each stitch around (36)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Round3: hdc in each stitch around (36)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Round 4: sc in next, sc2tog, sc in next 8, hdc in next, dc2tog 6 times, hdc in next, sc in next 8, sc2tog, sc in last (28)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Round 5: sc in next, sc2tog, sc in next 4, hdc in next 3, dc2tog 4 times, hdc in next 3, sc in next 4, sc2tog, sc in last (22)</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Strap: slst in next 7, ch 11, in 4th ch from hook, hdc in each ch across, slst to next stitch on body of shoe. Use chain space at end of strap as button hole. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Bow: Leaving a long tail for stitching, in magic ring work ch4, 3trc, ch4, sc, ch4, 3trc, ch4, slst. Use tail to wrap around center as desired and stitch to top front of bootie.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Stitch a button to body at open end of strap. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
For right bootie, ch1 and turn to do slip stitches of bootie up the opposite side of shoe body.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I hope you enjoy this pattern and hook up some cutie little booties for the babies in your lives!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

Good Monday Morning, friends!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Please don't fall off your chair or spill your coffee, but I actually have my square done and ready for posting on time. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And when I say "done" I mean finished, not correct. Honestly I don't know what the heck was going on when I was hooking up this square last week. Maybe it was the fumes of the pool chlorine and sunscreen. Maybe someone slipped something into my lemon water. Whatever it was, I messed this square up and didn't notice until I was photographing it this morning. Take a look:</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Do you see it? It's in the yellow round of dc on the left. What the what?!? And it threw off the entire rest of my square. Case in point for counting stitches my friends (I'm so bad about that sometimes!). Guess I know what I'll be doing while the boys swim today. </div>

Good Morning!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So this week, I was bound and determined to get my square posted in time. I sat poolside on Sunday afternoon hooking away while the boys swam:<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<iframe allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" height="598" scrolling="no" src="https://instagram.com/p/6LaJE5QPYu/embed/" width="500"></iframe><br />

These #</span><a href="http://www.gramfeed.com/instagram/tags/summernights" style="color: black; font-family: Verdana, Tahoma, Arial; font-size: 12px; text-align: left;" target="_blank">summernights</a><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana, Tahoma, Arial; font-size: 12px; text-align: left;"> are dwindling and I am determined to do two things: enjoy them while we have them and get this week's square posted in time for tomorrow morning.</span><br />
<span style="color: #888888; font-family: Verdana, Tahoma, Arial; font-size: 9px; text-align: left;">2 days ago (Aug 09 2015 17:47:57) | Photo Filter: Normal |</span><span style="color: #888888; font-family: Verdana, Tahoma, Arial; font-size: 9px; text-align: left;"> </span><a href="https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=3355916126212526801" style="color: #888888; cursor: pointer; font-family: Verdana, Tahoma, Arial; font-size: 9px; text-align: left; text-decoration: underline;">delete</a><br />
<br />
Then exactly 4 minutes and 43 seconds later I ran out of grey yarn, 6 stitches from the end of the round. Ugh!<br />
No big deal; I've got this. Ill just run to the craft store after dinner and pick up some more.<br />
Except the craft store closes at 7:00 on Sunday and I arrived at 7:09 Ugh!<br />
<br />
So here is this week's square, late again.<br />

WEEK THIRTY ONE || <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/daisy-centre-mandala-square" target="_blank">Daisy Center Mandala</a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
By <a href="http://zootyowlcards.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Zelna Olivier</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7VGrGo2llUc/Vbj00eimurI/AAAAAAAAJUw/gE5gXCqZn7c/s1600/6.29-square-week-31.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7VGrGo2llUc/Vbj00eimurI/AAAAAAAAJUw/gE5gXCqZn7c/s640/6.29-square-week-31.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am in love with this square and am so happy I chose to include it in my blanket. The pattern is actually two different patterns: one for the mandala and one to square it off. I may just be a teense bit impartial to mandalas (see my <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/lifemadecreate/c-r-o-c-h-e-t-mandalas/" target="_blank">crochet manual board</a>).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0hRuFEHQazE/Vbj01erGi8I/AAAAAAAAJU4/SPqLwiQhKkg/s1600/6.29-square-week-31-close.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0hRuFEHQazE/Vbj01erGi8I/AAAAAAAAJU4/SPqLwiQhKkg/s640/6.29-square-week-31-close.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I did make some minor changes to the pattern in order to end up with a square that fit my blanket.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
On the Daisy Mandala pattern:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Row 7: change the 5dc around to 7HDC in ea ch3 space</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
omit the rest of the rounds 8-11</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
To square off, follow the original pattern with these changes:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Round 1: ch2 instead of ch3</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Round 2: do 2 stitches in the corners instead of 3</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Round 3: same but ch2 instead of 3 around</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Round 4: beginning at the corner, *2dc ch2 2dc, in each of next spaces: 2dc, 2hdc, 2sc, 2sc, slst in next sc and ch space (for a total of 11 slip stitches), 2sc, 2sc, 2hdc, 2dc, repeat from * around and slst to finish off.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I will definitely be making a beautiful mandala from Zelna's pattern soon.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
